Overview
One of the biggest advantages of dynamic QR codes is the ability to change the destination URL at any time. Whether you need to fix a typo, redirect traffic to a new landing page, or rotate campaigns, you can do it in seconds from your QR Dex dashboard. The physical QR code stays the same -- no reprinting necessary.
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Go to your QR codes list.
Log in to your QR Dex account and navigate to the main QR codes page. You will see a list of all the QR codes you have created, organized by date or folder.
-
Find the QR code you want to update.
Scroll through the list to locate the specific QR code you want to update.
-
Click edit.
Select the QR code to open its detail view, then click the Edit button. This opens the editing form where you can modify the code's settings.
-
Change the destination URL.
Update the destination URL field with the new address you want scanners to be redirected to. Make sure the URL is complete, including
https://, and that it leads to a live page.
-
Save your changes.
Click Save QR Code to apply the update. The change takes effect immediately -- the very next person who scans your QR code will be sent to the new destination.
Important Notes
-
Only dynamic QR codes can be updated.
Static QR codes encode the destination URL directly into the code pattern. Once a static code is generated, its destination is permanently fixed. If you need to change where a static code points, you will have to create a new QR code entirely.
-
Changes are instant.
There is no propagation delay or caching period. As soon as you save, the redirect is updated on the QR Dex servers and all subsequent scans will go to the new URL.
-
Analytics carry over.
When you update the destination, your existing scan history and analytics data are preserved. You will not lose any tracking information from before the change.
-
Always test after updating.
Scan the QR code with your phone after saving to confirm the redirect is working correctly and the new page loads as expected.
Common Use Cases
Updating the destination URL is useful in many real-world situations:
-
Seasonal campaigns.
Point the same QR code on your storefront window to different promotions throughout the year -- spring sale, summer clearance, holiday deals -- without replacing the window decal.
-
Restaurant menus.
Update a QR code on table tents to link to a revised menu whenever dishes or prices change.
-
Event information.
Change the destination from a registration page to a live schedule or post-event survey as an event progresses.
-
Fixing mistakes.
Accidentally linked to the wrong page? Update the URL immediately without any physical reprinting costs.
