Overview
Creating a QR code with QR Dex takes just a few minutes. Whether you need a code for a website link, an email address, a Wi-Fi network, or something else entirely, the process is straightforward. This guide walks you through every step from account creation to downloading your finished code.
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Sign up or log in.
Visit qrdex.io/signup to create a free account. If you already have an account, log in from the homepage. You can also sign up with Google for faster access.
-
Click "Create a QR Code."
Once you are on your dashboard, click the Create a QR Code button. This opens the QR code editor where you will configure everything about your new code.
-
Name your QR code.
Enter a name in the Name your QR code field. This is required and helps you identify the code in your dashboard later.
-
Choose your QR code type.
Select the type of QR code you want to create. QR Dex supports several types, including:
- Website -- Link to any website or landing page.
- Telephone -- Dial a phone number when scanned.
- SMS -- Pre-fill a phone number and text message.
- WhatsApp -- Open a WhatsApp conversation with a specific number.
- Email -- Pre-fill the recipient address, subject line, and body text.
- Wi-Fi -- Connect devices to a Wi-Fi network automatically.
-
Enter your destination or content.
Fill in the required fields for the QR code type you selected. For a URL code, paste the full web address. For an email code, enter the recipient, subject, and body. The preview panel on the right updates in real time so you can see what your code will look like.
-
Enable or disable scan tracking.
Use the Track QR Code Scans toggle to control whether your code is dynamic (tracked) or static (untracked). When tracking is enabled, QR Dex records every scan and lets you change the destination URL later. When tracking is disabled, the data is encoded directly in the code and cannot be changed after creation.
-
Customize the design (optional).
Personalize your QR code by changing colors, adjusting the shape of the modules, or uploading a logo. Custom branding helps your codes stand out and reinforces trust with the people scanning them. You can always come back and edit the design later.
-
Save and download.
Click Save QR Code to store your QR code. From there you can download it as a PNG, JPG, WEBP, or SVG file, ready for print or digital use.
Static vs Dynamic
During creation you can control whether your code is static or dynamic using the Track QR Code Scans toggle. When the toggle is on, your code is dynamic -- it lets you change the destination URL at any time without reprinting the code, and it tracks every scan so you can view analytics like scan count, location, and device type. When the toggle is off, your code is static -- the data is encoded directly and cannot be changed. If you plan to use your QR code in marketing materials or printed media, enabling tracking (dynamic) is the recommended choice.
Tips for Success
- Always test your QR code by scanning it with your phone before distributing it.
- Use high-contrast colors -- dark modules on a light background scan most reliably.
- Keep the destination URL short and relevant for the best user experience.
- If you are printing the code, download the SVG format for the sharpest results at any size.
