Overview
QR Dex uses a simple, two-role permission model to keep team management straightforward while ensuring the right people have access to sensitive settings. Every person on your team is either an Owner or a Member. This article explains what each role can do and how role assignment works.
The Two Roles
Rather than a complex hierarchy of permission levels, QR Dex keeps things simple with two clearly defined roles:
Owner
The Owner has full administrative control over the team. This role is automatically assigned to the person who originally created the team during signup. Owner permissions include:
- Manage billing -- View invoices, change the subscription plan, and update the payment method.
- Invite and remove members -- Send invitations to new colleagues and remove existing members from the team.
- Manage integrations -- Connect and configure third-party integrations such as HubSpot, Salesforce, and Zapier.
- Configure SSO -- Set up and manage SAML single sign-on with identity providers like Okta or Microsoft Entra ID.
- Access all QR codes -- View, edit, and delete any QR code in the team library, regardless of who created it.
- View all analytics -- Access scan analytics for every QR code across the entire team.
- Configure team settings -- Update the team name, default settings, and other workspace-level preferences.
Member
Members are the standard role for most people on your team. They have the tools they need to work with QR codes on a daily basis without access to sensitive administrative settings. Member permissions include:
- Create and manage QR codes -- Create new QR codes, edit existing ones, and organize codes in the shared library.
- View analytics -- Access scan data and performance metrics for QR codes in the team library.
- Use integrations -- Take advantage of integrations that the Owner has already connected and configured.
- Update personal profile -- Change their own name, email, and password at any time.

How Roles Are Assigned
Only the person who created the team is assigned the Owner role. Everyone who joins afterward through an invitation is assigned the Member role by default. There is no way to promote a Member to Owner or demote an Owner to Member at this time.
Ownership Transfer
Ownership transfer is not currently supported in QR Dex. If you need to change who owns the team -- for example, if the original creator is leaving the organization -- please contact our support team at support@bluejay.io and we will assist you.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can a team have more than one Owner? No. Each team has exactly one Owner. All other members hold the Member role.
- Can a Member delete QR codes? Members can manage QR codes in the shared library, including editing and deleting codes.
- What happens when a Member is removed? Their access is revoked immediately, but any QR codes they created remain in the team library and continue to function normally.
